Think of a blank room, not too big, where you have to squeeze the space well. We are going to decorate it little by little, going through different parts. Before filling it with furniture, you have to paint the walls…

Decorated walls: the first step to decorate your room

There are plenty of ways to decorate the walls in a different way, avoiding the typical bland white that says nothing. Although it is true that, in small rooms, white gives a feeling of spaciousness, it can be combined with slightly more risky designs in some area to create a special corner. We propose three ideas: create a small blackboard in a corner with acrylic paint, make an area with geometric figures with colors and masking tape or decorate a wall with black polka dots -in the photo there is a children’s room, but it does not have to be So- . All very simple! And if you want to see some more, don’t miss another post in which I give you 8 ideas to paint the walls of a room with several different designs.

How to decorate a room: DIY headboards

We already have the walls decorated, now we have to start thinking about the bed. A headboard always dresses a room a lot, giving the bed the prominence it deserves and contributing to the decoration of the environment. There are plenty of ways to make cool headboards on the cheap, even with recycled materials. Depending on how you want it, lighter or more robust, you can use one thing or another. We propose two different ideas: in the image above, a PRECIOUS headboard made with wool in pastel tones; In the video below, a project we did at Handfie that we are super proud of, a headboard with wooden slats and a bit of varnish. Which one do you prefer?

Personalized cushions to decorate the bed

We continue in the bed, which for something is the most important part of any room. And you need a good bed… nice cushions! We have taken this cool idea from Brit+Co. Buy some basic white cushions, which you can find at any decoration store for not much money, and personalize them to your liking with some fabric markers. You can make cool shapes or write messages, whatever you want.

Homemade nightstand: more ideas to decorate a room

And, next to the bed… a nightstand, of course. If you dare to work with a bit of wood, this idea that they have done in The Merry Thought is very very cool. If you notice, the structure of this floating nightstand is very simple. It is only made up of two rectangular pieces of wood, one of them with a slot to put the mobile. Pretty and practical, right?

And if you want something even simpler, buy a wooden box, varnish it and screw some legs to it so you can move it wherever you want. Easier, impossible.

DIY lamp: an essential complement

Your bedside table needs a good lamp on top and you can make it without spending almost nothing. Look at these two ideas with recycled materials. In the first, they have created a tiny lamp with… a PVC pipe! In the video below, we made a table lamp out of a can of crushed tomato. They seem like two materials that don’t go very well in a room but, taken out of context and with a bit of work on them, they look that good…

Work zone: affordable desks

If you are lucky enough that your room is large enough to have a work area, you will need a desk. You don’t need to spend too much money for this either. With a wooden board and a couple of supports you can create a table where you can put your laptop and work at ease. Easels or wooden boxes?

Chest of drawers: it’s time to customize an Ikea piece of furniture.

For the chest of drawers, an Ikea hack . The RAST chest of drawers is an absolute Ikea classic and is quite cheap, only about 25 euros. Although undecorated it is also beautiful, to make it much more special you can customize it and transform it into a piece of furniture that makes a difference. We divided its front into geometric shapes with masking tape and filled them with Liberon matt paint in different colors. Do you like it?

A beautiful shelf to decorate your room

The time has come to find a place to put the furniture. How about making a bookcase with a bit of wood and leather? It’s a winning combination and you know it. Above, a model from Hubsch, a decoration store, but one that you can also do at home. Below, an alternative that changes the leather straps for… belts!
